No Going Back Lyrics
When You First Told Me - Craig Fisher (2019)
When you first told me that you didn’t love me anymore
Couldn’t believe what I heard, but then you told me there was more
When you told me you found someone I couldn’t believe my ears
Right there and then I knew I wasted all these years
Wasted all these years, I wasted all these years
Just wasted all, wasted all, wasted all these years
Now I’m on the road and I’m never looking back
My heart has grown stone cold and my love for you turned black (and blue)
Distance is the best thing now, yet I thought our love was true
Who would have ever thought my love for you would have turned blue
Yeah, my love for you turned blue, my love for you turned blue
My love for you, my love for you, my love for you turned blue
Losing love happens now, it happens all the time
Never thought losing you would happen in our prime
Trying to keep a love seems to be a losing game
The best thing to happen to me was movin’ on from the pain
Yeah, movin’ on from the pain, just movin’ on from the pain
Just movin’ on from, movin’ on from, movin’ on from that pain
Missy Stop It - Jeff Huhtala (1990)
Missy stop it don’t know what to do
If you don’t stop it you know you’ll suffer too
You got to end it ‘cause two plus one won’t do
Missy stop it
Why can’t this dog have his bone? Why can’t you leave him alone?
Why can’t this dog have his bone…………..
………………………Missy stop it…...Missy stop it
Missy stop it don’t go out that door
Missy stop it ‘cause I can’t take no more
Missy stop it I’m crawling on the floor
Missy stop it
Why can’t this dog have his bone? Why can’t you leave him alone?
Why can’t this dog have his bone…………..
………………………Missy stop it…...Missy stop it
Missy stop it don’t go down that road
Missy stop it ‘cause I can’t bear that load
Missy stop it ‘cause I just feel fly-blowed
Missy stop it
Why can’t this dog have his bone? Why can’t you leave him alone?
Why can’t this dog have his bone…………..
………………………Missy stop it…...Missy stop it
Missy stop it ...
Missy was our clumsy black lab. We lived in McCloud. I was playing the riff loudly in my living room when my wife came home from grocery shopping. As she tried to get in the front door with a bag of groceries under each arm, the dog tried to weasel in through the door at the same time. My wife said “Missy, stop it!” There it was. Missy Stop It became the first words to the song.
I’m Lonely - Craig Fisher (2021)
There’s a dead man walking’ in the rain, you know he leaves no tracks
He’s just here to find a way…to come back
He had so many things to do, he never finished his dreams
Now he’s here to tell you what it’s all supposed to mean
Torn pictures that you once adored, broken picture frames you’ve thrown out the door
Shards of glass to pick up off the floor
I’m alone, so all alone, I’m alone, oh I’m lonely
Don’t want to call you on the telephone, I want to meet you in person
Before I have to go back home, I just want to be certain
You know you said to me that you really cared, and that your love would be true
But then you left me all alone, what was I supposed to do?
Torn pictures that you once adored, broken picture frames you’ve thrown out the door
Shards of glass to pick up off the floor
I’m alone, so all alone, I’m alone, oh I’m lonely
Basically you tell me that I don’t know who the hell you really are
Couldn’t walk inside your shoes, I wouldn’t get very far
I don’t really want to be in your space, don’t want to go in that direction
After all you’ve said and done, I think I need some more protection
Torn pictures that you once adored, broken picture frames you’ve thrown out the door
Shards of glass to pick up off the floor
I’m alone, so all alone, I’m alone, oh I’m lonely
Wowowo, I’m lonely Wowowo, I’m just lonely
An “A” Thing - Jeff Huhtala (2002)
It’s an “A” thing baby, it starts right from the start
It’s an “A” thing baby, an alphabet of the heart
It’s an “A” thing baby…
It’s an “A” thing baby, the other end is Zee
It’s an “A” thing baby, not too hard to see
It’s an “A” thing baby…
We’ve got an “A” thing baby, baby you and me
I’ve got an “A” thing baby, from back here I can see
We’ve got an “A” thing baby…
It’s a snappy tune, but it starts and ends real slow
It’s a snappy tune, but it starts and ends real slow
It’s an “A” thing baby…
It’s an “A” thing……
The Lights Are Too Bright - Craig Fisher (2021)
The lights are too bright on the south side of town
I look up for the stars but there’s none shining around
And it gets me to thinking about how our love used to be
And then the moon rises and I start thinking differently
There was a mistake I made a long time ago with you
But you can’t change the past, there’s nothing I can do
Drifting in and out of consciousness, trying to find some sleep
Trying to recapture a dream about love and how good it could be
Try to save all the good thoughts that are in your heart
Never let them go, they could keep you from falling apart
You can’t get back to where you were it doesn’t happen that way
Keep moving on like the moon and hope for a better day
I could watch the moon rising over Shasta tracking slow
Maybe the stars will come out but who am I to know
Then there’s the clouds floating overhead, I also wonder where they go
They’re just like a good dream they dissipate when you wake or so I’m told
I just want another chance to save this romance
And try to save two hearts and keep them…on the same path
But the lights are too bright on the south side of town
I look up for the stars but there’s none shining around
Ice Chest Cowboy - Jeff Huhtala (2014)
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he knows just what to do
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he knows just what to do
Do what the ice chest tells him to
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he only drinks a certain brew
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he only drinks a certain brew
But for an ice chest cowboy, any old brew will do
Yodelayhee...
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he’s handy with a lariat
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he’s handy with a lariat
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he knows where the beer is at
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he wants to make you think he’s mean
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he wants to make you think he’s mean
He’s the ice chest cowboy, hanging by the ice machine
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he panics when the beer runs low
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he panics when the beer runs low
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he don’t know how to drink it slow
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he likes that squeakin’ ice chest lid
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he likes that squeakin’ ice chest lid
Searchin’ where the last beer’s hid
Yodelayhee...
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he only likes a certain brand
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he only likes a certain brand
When the chips are down, he’ll drink whatever’s on hand
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he knows just what to do
He’s the ice chest cowboy, he knows just what to do
Do what the ice chest tells him to
I know a man who once consumed 56 beers in a 24-hour period during a Wyoming hunting trip. This works out to 2.3 beers per hour. As you might imagine, between him and the rest of our hunting party the ice chest got a constant workout. Thus the inspiration for the “Ice Chest Cowboy”. This man is now a “retired” drinker and has been sober for several years.
Shh…Just Let It Happen - Craig Fisher (2021)
Shush…just let it happen. I said shush…just let it happen
World’s gone crazy today, no one comes out anymore to play.
Everyone’s locked up inside to stay
I just want to joke and play, no one laughs at what I say
How long’s it gonna stay this way?
I can’t take it anymore, I wish I could walk out a door
And travel to a different time and space
Shush, just let it happen. C’mon, just let it happen. You know it’s gonna happen.
Shush, just let it happen
I said shush, yeah just let it happen. And I said shush, oh just let it happen.
You’ve gotten crazy they say, put on your mask before you go play
You’ve gotten very cruel now it seems.
Maybe it’s time to walk away, I don’t like the things you say
Maybe it’s time to travel our different ways
We can’t take it anymore. I wish I could walk out a door
And travel to a different time and space
Shush, just let it happen. C’mon, just let it happen. You know it’s gonna happen.
Shush, just let it happen
Shush, just let it happen
No Going Back - Jeremy Huhtala (2004)
Well you’ve got to forget all of your preconceptions
Step back for a moment from your hold on reason
Why you want what you can’t have…
Some things are free but you’ve got the biggest tab…
You’ve got to realize you’re never going back
So now you sit there oh so helplessly
Trying to find your own little peace tree
Searching everywhere, you are losing track
You’ve got a monkey on your back
Swinging down on you, oh yeah, swinging down
You’ve got to realize you’re never going back
So here we are, it’s only what you see
It feels alright when you know to let it be
There’s nothing you need to say, it’s only what you do
So gather yourself and feel it through and through
Coming down on you, oh yeah, coming down
You’ve got to realize you’re never going back
You’ve got to realize you’re never going back
Real Fine Song - Roger Melton (a.k.a. “Mel Tone”) Copyright 2022
I wish I could remember the words to this song
‘Cuz if I could then I could sing along
But right now they just seem to escape my mind
So I’ll just sit right here and tap my foot to the time
It’s a real familiar tune
The kind I like to listen to when I’m sitting in my room
It’s a real fine song…it’s a real fine song
I wish I could remember one line to this tune
If I could the other lines would come to me soon
But I can’t seem to remember one word or one rhyme
So I’ll just sit right here and I’ll tap my foot to the time
It’s a real familiar tune
The kind I like to listen to when I’m sitting in my room
It’s a real fine song…it’s a real fine song
It’s a real familiar tune
The kind I like to listen to when I’m sitting in my room
It’s a real fine song…it’s a real fine song
I think it’s about some guy who gets in a fight…
Now…hold it…that ain’t right….
It’s about some guy who leaves his lady and drinks a lot of wine
I can’t remember the words so I’ll just tap my foot to the time
It’s a real familiar tune
The kind I like to listen to when I’m sitting in my room
It’s a real fine song…it’s a real fine song
It’s a real fine song…it’s a real fine song
When Our Eyes First Met - Craig Fisher (2019)
I remember when our eyes first met at that wedding
It was love at first sight and you cannot deny
Our love started like two locomotives
Traveling hell bent and head on when they collide
We’ve been together ever since then
Through all that time our love has survived
You are everything in the world to me
Of that you know and I do not lie
At the wedding we just stared at each other
Couldn’t even dance we were so mesmerized
Since that day we’ve always been together
I hope it stays that way until the end of time
You should know you’re everything to me
Just like those trains after they’ve intertwined
I’ll never leave and I’ll always be there
Right there until the end of time
I’ll be right there by your side
Hornytoad Blues - Jeff Huhtala (1995)
Well my baby climbed the mountain…she left me all alone
Said my baby climbed the mountain…she left me all alone
Well she left me sitting here just like a dog without a bone
My babe went down the river…she left me high and dry
My babe went down the river…she left me high and dry
Well she left me sitting here… just like a spider without a fly
Well my babe went down the highway…she left me by the road
And my babe went down the highway…she left me by the road
Well I guess my kissing princess..up and left her little hornytoad
Well my baby climbed the mountain…she left me all alone
Said my baby climbed Mount Shasta…she left me all alone
Well she left me sitting here just like a doggie without a bone
I Leave the TV On - Craig Fisher (2019)
I leave the TV on downstairs, to make me feel like you’re still home
I wake up in the night but you’re not there. You don’t lay next to me no more
I long to kiss you in the night, or cuddle and want to hold you tight
We used to be friends and lovers too. Now I’m all alone and don’t know what to do
My loneliness is just a bad dream, my reality is not what it seems
It’s death to feel so all alone. Without your love there ain’t no home
How could you be so heartless and cold? I don’t have your love or you to hold
Yet I keep the TV on downstairs, ‘cuz it makes me feel like you’re still there
My loneliness is just a bad dream, my reality is not what it seems
It’s death to feel so all alone. Without your love there ain’t no home
Too bad this isn’t just a dream, and you weren’t so cold and so goddamn mean
But I keep the TV on downstairs, just to make me think that you still care
My loneliness is just a bad dream, my reality is not what it seems
It’s death to feel so all alone. Without your love there ain’t no home
Without your love there ain’t no home
Without your love there ain’t no home
Streak of Meanness - Jeff Huhtala (2002)
Friends, I’ve come to a conclusion:
The general rule is human beings are cruel, who said female gender’s always tender?
But we can get along, if I remember you’re right, and I am wrong
You’ve got a mean streak
Tribes are tribes, that’s the reason, mistrust and mayhem are always in season
You can’t change human nature…if you think you can you’re bound for failure
We’ve got a mean streak
Through history, no mystery, those with gold make the rules
He who loses takes the bruises, the winners are bold, their story is told
They’ve got a mean streak
Powers that be make rules for the rest of us, their justice is just that, “just-us”
All men are equal, some more equal than others, don’t they see that we’re all brothers?
We need a mean streak
Who said the new boss same as the old boss? Some lines you just can’t cross
You go your way, I’ll go mine, no jab for me, like to see you try
I’ve got a mean streak………you’ve got a mean streak…we’ve got a mean streak
Damn the CCP!
Jeffrey’s Bicycle Instrumental - Jeff Huhtala (1984)
My son Jeffrey was about 5 years old (early 1980’s) when I bought him his first bicycle. He was pretty proud of it, and kept it on the front porch of our house in McCloud, not a high crime neighborhood by any means. One morning the bike was gone, never saw it again. I assume an adult stole it, not a kid. And I thought to myself, how low can you go? Stealing a little kids bike! So I wrote a song…..
Life’s Been Good To Me - Craig Fisher (2019)
It’s the end of the trail, and you know my life has been good to me
Now don’t shed no tears, just toast me with a whiskey and beer
Life has been good to me, you know my life has been good to me
You know my life has just been good to me
Now down my traveled roads, with all their twists and turns
I just can’t complain, through all that bad there was still more good
Life has been good to me, you know my life has been good to me
You know my life has just been good to me
Well you know my time has come, and I’ll be moving on
Was nice to know ya, and we sure had a whole lot of fun
Life has been good to me, you know my life has been good to me
You know my life has just been good to me
You know my life has just been good to me
I said you know my life has just been good to me
